Dennis L. Kodner, Ph.D is a noted gerontologist, eldercare innovator and social entrepreneur, as well as a sought after consultant and speakerr. Dr. Kodner is the Principal of DLK Care Strategies—an international consulting practice specializing in eldercare, chronic care and integrated care solutions for organizations in the public and private sectors. Prior to founding the firm, he was Senior Vice President for Research & Innovation at Metropolitan Jewish Health System (MJHS) in New York City, and Executive Director of its Institute for Applied Gerontology. MJHS is one of America’s leading “continuum of care” health systems. He teaches at New York Medical College (Long Term Care Policy), Wagner Graduate School of Public Service at New York University (both Managed Care, and Comparative Health Systems), and on the Faculty of Health Sciences & Public Health at Maastricht University, the Netherlands (both Innovation in Health and Social Care, and Chronic Illness Management). He is a Fellow of the Gerontological Society of America and The New York Academy of Medicine. Dr. Kodner’s practice, policy and research interests include long term care delivery and financing, care management for vulnerable and high-risk populations, home- and community-based services, managed care/integrated care for the elderly and people with chronic disabling conditions, palliative care, eldercare futurology, comparative health systems, and eldercare innovation. He is the author of numerous publications, and has served as an advisor to many governmental and non-governmental organizations, including the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, U.S. Agency for Health Care Research & Quality, U.S. Physician Payment Review Commission, U.S. Congress Office of Technology Assessment, American Hospital Association, American Association for Homes & Services for the Aging, American Association of Health Plans, National Chronic Care Consortium, The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and Retirement Research Foundation. Dr. Kodner consults with hospitals, health systems, managed care organizations, long term care and housing providers, insurance companies, and professional and trade associations, and also serves on the editorial boards of Home Health Care Services Quarterly (U.S.), International Journal of Integrated Care (Netherlands), and Social Policy & Administration (UK). Dr. Kodner’s background includes several senior management positions in the hospital, long term care and managed care industries. He was the first Executive Director of Elderplan—the nation’s first Social HMO. He also served as the Project Director and Principal Investigator of HomeFirst—a home care-based managed Chronic Care Organization, as well as of the Southern Brooklyn Palliative Care Network—a community-based initiative focusing on end of life care for the elderly. Dr. Kodner also has extensive international experience as both a lecturer and consultant in Argentina, Canada, France, Israel, Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, and United Kingdom. He has advised the European Association of Care & Help at Home and European Hospital at Home Network, as well as the World Health Organization (WHO). He is also a member of the Steering Committee of SYSTED—the International Forum of Systems Science in Health & Social care for the Elderly and People with Disabilities. Dr. Kodner serves on the Board of Directors of the American Society of Aging, and was the 1999 recipient of the prestigious Key Award for Leadership in Gerontological Research, Education, Policy and Practice given by the Gerontological Health Section of the American Public Health Association.
